Alright so, this review is way past due, but here we go. I attended Killfest 2010 at the Palladium on Friday, April 2nd, 2010. It was overall a great show. Evile was good, but like many bands that have a multi-role frontman (vocals/guitar, vocals/bass, etc.), they didn’t really have great stage presence. However, they sounded great and delivered a strong set. Following Evile, Warbringer offered an awesome set. This thrash revival band is very promising. The lead vocalist only handled vocals, which was probably for the better, seeing as he had amazing stage presence. I actually bumped into him after his set – really cool, down-to-earth dude. He had a great deal of energy and actually crowd-surfed at the end of Warbringer’s set. I see a bright future for this band.
I did not enjoy God Dethroned or Vader at all. God Dethroned did not want to be there; it was evident in their delivery of their music. Music-wise, they had a couple good guitar solos, but otherwise, they weren’t anything special. Vader was the last band to play before the old school thrash titan headliners took the stage. Their sound was off by so much. The sound quality was so awful that it was hard to even listen to the music. The band had horrible stage presence, even worse than God Dethroned, which says a lot. I was surprised that the crowd was actually energetic at all toward this band; no thanks to Vader.
Overkill took the stage and just killed it. Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth showed everyone how a true frontman does it. The only problem with Blitz was that he ran to the side of the stage during almost every guitar solo, which is when the frontman should be interacting with his audience the most. The band was tight all around, delivering an extremely strong set.
